an open source wonderland

I’ve worked in most of the standard 3d programs: Maya, Max, Softimage, Houdini, C4D, and others. I miss Softimage. I still work in them when needed. Each has their specialty, their magic buttons.

Lately I’ve been working with Blender – it’s more a symbiotic relationship. Unlike all of the programs above, Blender is open source. Being open source it is always improving, with a world wide force of developers at all levels giving what they can. And also being open source, I can dig into the code myself and customize as I wish… or if I can.

From the Blender site: “Blender is the free and open source 3D creation suite. It supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline—modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, video editing and game creation.”

I also like that I can walk into a room full computers and install Blender (legally) on… instant render farm.

The links under the menu PRODUCTION FILES covers my explorations using Blender in production and experimentations.

They are mainly meant to instill my own understanding of theses explorations, by forcing me to explain what I have done onto these pages. As well, I have come to realsize, it has become an invaluable recourse for this forgetfull mind.
